EXCITING plans for turning Stanhope Castle into a venue for functions and events have been revealed.
Residents have said, “ The castle could be the ideal venue for a diverse selection of events that will involve the local community and will be in keeping with the historic nature of the building.”
The first event was to be an outdoor Christmas Carol concert by Stanhope Silver Band on December 23rd, but technical reasons prevented it going ahead, but Steve Robson, organiser from the Band has stated that a Classical Evening, and perhaps a Tea Party could be held in the summer.
Because of its imposing and central position in the town, the castle residents would like to involve the local community in all its venues. Other ideas that may come to fruition include: Classical Evenings, Plays on the lawn, Medieval Banquets, Morris Dancing, Exhibitions, and Tea Parties.
Any funds raised from these events would go towards funding future ones as well as the upkeep of the grounds, gardens and the historic impact of the castle.
