The surrounding countryside is a delight for walkers and cyclists. Golf, swimming, riding and many more sports are all available locally. County cricket at Chester-le-Street and racing at Newcastle, Hexham and Sedgefield are all within easy reach.

The local Weardale Steam Train service which currently runs from Stanhope to Wolsingham is another very popular attraction in the area.

The town of Stanhope is very popular place of tourism with its attractions of the river ford, outdoor swimming pool, The Dales Centre (Tourist Information Centre), and many local cafes, pubs and restaurants.

Eating out will be a pleasure in one of the many excellent country pubs in the surrounding villages.
